Sunrise Balloons

Sunrise will pick you up and transport you to the launch site then carry out a safety briefing and weigh passengers.

The balloon is then inflated and passengers climb aboard for an approximately 1 hour flight. After the flight, the balloon is packed away and everybody enjoys a celebratory breakfast before being transported back to their pick up point.

Flights are at dawn when the air is cool and calm. Pickup time is before dawn and varies according to the season so you should allow 3½-4 hours for the experience.

You will get views of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski areas, Mount Aspiring in the Southern Alps and Mount Tutoko in Fiordland National Park.

You also see Lake Wakatipu, Lake Hayes, the Shotover and Kawarau rivers. Some locations used in “The Lord Of The Rings” can also be seen, for example, The Ford Of Bruinen; Dimrill Dale; The Gates of Argonath; The Pillars Of The Kings. Also visible is Mount Earnslaw, one of the great mountains seen in Isengard.

Hot air ballooning is weather dependent; therefore we recommend a ballooning trip near the start of your stay in Queenstown. This gives you the chance to re-book if the weather is not suitable on your chosen day.
If booking less than a week in advance it is best to phone Sunrise balloons.

Cancellation Policy.

If your plans change a cancellation fee applies. A $200 fee applies per passenger if you cancel within 48 hours of flight for small groups or within 7 days of flight for larger groups(5 or more). If you cancel within 24 hours of flight, full amount of fare applies.

If flight is cancelled by Sunrise Balloons due to unsuitable weather conditions, there is no charge. You may re-book for another day on a space available basis, if you have time.

Please note maximum weight for each passenger is 136 kgs or 300 lbs or 21.50 stone!

It is extremely important for flight planning that we have accurate weights, it is a legal requirement that each person must be weighed before the flight!
